On Monday, 2 June 2025, the PIAG had the privilege of hosting a memorable Fireside Chat with Madame Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law). The event took place at Gide Loyrette Nouel, in the heart of Paris, and brought together professionals, academics, and arbitration enthusiasts for an engaging evening of dialogue and exchange.
Moderated by Sacha Willaume, counsel at Gide, the conversation provided a rare opportunity to reflect on Ms. Joubin-Bret’s impressive career and to delve into her current role at UNCITRAL. A focal point of the discussion was the progress and challenges of Working Group III on investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS) reform — a topic of growing significance in the international arbitration landscape.
The event offered a dynamic and informal setting for participants to engage with one of the field’s foremost figures. Attendees appreciated not only the depth of insight shared but also the chance to pose questions directly to Ms. Joubin-Bret during the interactive portion of the evening.
The discussion was followed by a cocktail reception, where conversations continued and connections were strengthened among members of the arbitration community.
We extend our warmest thanks to Madame Anna Joubin-Bret for her time and invaluable insights, and to all who attended and contributed to the success of the evening.
